History
For the History section I am
relying heavily on Isaac Asimov's
chronology of the world. The reason for this, is the information was
easier to grab, rather than digging through the history books to locate
the things I have in my head concerning this topic. His book is very
easy to comprehend and even the "un-educated" can understand his
language.
One can never fully comprehend
belief or esoteric written words, if
they don't have a good understanding of the events and developments for
the geography, where the written events took place. Every place has
it's own customs, and when groups of people emerged as a city, they
tended to assimilate each others beliefs.
One can never truly rightly
divide the "word", if they are ignorant of
local customs, priesthood and temples. surrounding governments role,
kings and kingdoms. The first beginnings of man are very complex and
many an ignorant religious person will demand that the "word of G*d" be
true. I am not here to refute the bible, nor to disprove the existence
of G*d.
Prior to the rise of civilization, Man-kind was supportive of G*dess
worship.
Sumerian
After existing for a few
thousand years, the Mesopotamian valley areas
benefited from a group of people called the Sumerian's. They were the
ones who made the urban life better. Through trade and commerce they
brought urban and rural products to each other. It was during this time
that the land surrounding the rivers, Tigris and Euphrates, was called
Sumeria. The Bible records this as Shinar.
Agriculture was big in this
area of fertile lands, the Sumerian's
established cities and states. They implemented irrigation standards,
and increased the yield considerably. They also used oars to
implement motion on the river Euphrates. When
there was no wind they used the oar system to get where they needed to
go. Irrigation was a big thing to these peoples, and they also learned
to plow the soil, rather than just poking holes with seeds placed in
them.
Rulers of these city state
governments, tended to be seen as priests
and kings, they associated the ruler with the divine. This method
granted assured success to the kings. Religion was
institutionalized during this time period, and priestly duties for the
people were created. Government record keeping was a relatively new
thing, but the Sumerian's brought it to the table.
Along the Euphrates, sailing
was discovered for easier travel along the
waterways. around 4,000 B.C. the city of Ur was founded by the
Sumerian's. It was the most important city in the Sumerian culture.
Prior to Sumerian culture, it
is estimated to be the end of the Stone
Age, meaning that mankind started to use other things for tools, such
as metals, rather than stones. the Bronze age started out with metal
and other mixtures and found that they were not very good for tool
usage, over time they found ways to heat the metal and other components
to get a stronger metal that could be pounded back into shape, and it
held its form.
This culture came up with
pottery that was thrown on a wheel, that made
it easier for creating work, being spun around on a flat stone with a
div-it.
These people were the inventors
of the wheel, which made for easier
moving of large things. Prior to this they would either have to drag an
object, or have an ox pull a litter behind that dragged on the ground.
another method employed was to cut logs and put them in front of the
load being moved, then pull the one off the back and move it to the
front of the cart. This was tedious and very labor intensive, the wheel
implemented a four wheeled cart that could easily be moved about, or
pulled.
The Sumerian Culture had gotten
so big, that counting it's resources
was a very difficult task. This is where tabulating the national
product and taxes to the government came into play. Through the use of
writing, they were able to implement strategies for using a number
system that consisted of its prime numbers as, 12, 60, and 360. Modern
man still uses this system. there are 12 units to a dozen, 60 minutes
in an hour, and 360 degrees in a circle.
This was the first time that
writing came into form, it was done on
clay through the use of specific tools. Then baked in a hot oven, which
made it permanent. It started out with images, that eventually grew
into an alphabet. The Scribes were a valuable part of this culture,
because they were the learned who understood hundreds of images to
convey the message being written or read about.
There was an infusion of the Akkadian's and
after this happened the time period is referred to as "Sumer-Akkad".
The Biblical accounts of history, refer to the Akkadian's as
descendants of Shem.
Gilgamesh
was the ruler of Uruk, Biblical
is Erech, and hero in the story of the Sumerian legends concerning a
great flood. Asimov claims that woolley discovered the Sumerian cities
were buried in suit. He estimated that the Sumerian area was under
water by about 25 feet deep. For a stretch of about 300 miles. It
depleted the Sumerian population, they struggled to regain, but never
fully recovered.
Here is what Asimov's book says:
The hero is Gilgamesh, who
had
been king of Uruk, to whose historic
personality the fictional tale of the epic was added. A close friend of
his had died, and he decided to try to find the secret of immortality.
After a complicated search, he came upon Ut_Napishtim, who, at the time
of the Flood, had built a large vessel in which he had saved himself
and his family. Not only was Ut_Napishtim saved, but the G*ds also gave
him the gift of eternal life. Ut-Napishtim directed Gilgamesh to the
whereabouts of a certain magic plant. If Gilgamesh obtained the plant
and ate it, he, too, would be immortal. He found the plant , but,
before he could eat it, it was stolen by a serpent and Gilgamesh
remained mortal.
Asimov states that it is clear
to see where the Hebrews eventually got
their tale of Noah, and part of their tale of Adam and Eve. They were
in the region, as the Habiru and there was a lot of cross cultural
"borrowing" from one another.
Sumeria suffered greatly after
the flood had claimed a large portion of
their population. Many leaders emerged from various towns and most fell
just as quickly as they conquered. During this chaotic phase of
Sumeria's
timeline, there was a ruler named
Sargon of Agade. Legends grew about him. One in particular, being that
he was
found in a boat, floating on the river. This legend was famous in the
middle east and would be written into the Moses account. Sargon's
victories were the result of having superior weapons, and
trained warriors. Sargon the great was the first recorded great
conquerer. On a side not related but not entirely, the Story of
Taliesin the sixth century celtic bard, also was found in the reeds of
a marshland.
Ur eventually rose to power
again, and this is where we find the
Patriarch Abram, setting aside his family idols and embracing
monotheism.
Egypt
Egypt was another civilization
that enjoyed tremendous growth during
the Sumerian Mesopotamian era. They were protected from invasion from
almost all the points, with the exception of the cannon peninsula.
Trade was rather easy, because of the Nile delta region.
Egyptians took the Sumerian
writing idea, and came up with their own
system. It was called hieroglyphic, in Greek it means "priestly
writing".
Which was primarily found in temples.
Narmer was the first king, of
the Egyptian Dynasties. He united the
upper Nile kingdoms with the lower Nile governments. placing his
capitol in the middle of both, giving equal access to all parties. The
result of this was a nation that had one language and writing style.
This was the first Nation that existed in history. It is the Egyptians
who wrote the book of the dead on papyrus.
Egyptians enjoyed many years of
peace and flourished, they prospered
quite a bit, during the same time that Sumeria struggled for existence.
Up until a certain period, it was rather easy to distinguish when to
hunt or plant according to the astrological positions. the phases of
the moon were used because it was the simplest of any complex system
for deciding when to do things. The lunar calendar came into
existence, it had twelve new moons in the year. every once in a while
they would throw in a 13th month to balance out the calculations. this
system eventually became very complicated and is still being used by
Judaism today.
In Egypt they went by the
flooding once a year of the Nile as a marker
for their calender. they discovered that it took 365 days until the
next flood would take place. they divided 365 days into 12 months each
being 30 days long. they no longer payed attention to the moon phases
and added five extra days that belonged do no month for articulating
the correct calculations. This was the Solar Calender and variations of
this existed and ended up being used in current times.
The word Pharaoh is a Greek
word, it means "big house", this was due
largely in part to the kings of Egypt building grand palaces and
buildings, to include the pyramids. The peace they enjoyed allowed for
skilled craftsmen to come into being throughout the Egyptian Empire.
Egypt enjoyed peace, so it was able to allocate its vast resources to
building rather than to pay for military needs.
Canaan
Canaan is located between the
Sumerian cities and the Egyptian nation.
Canaanite's enjoyed being the middle men in trade between these two
geographic areas. They enjoyed great wealth in a short amount of time,
because they were able to make a profit from both cultures. This area
is also referred to as Phoenicia.
Babylonia
The Semitic tribe the Amorites,
invaded Sumeria, and became the new
leaders. They invaded a small town in Sumeria, called Bab-ilum.
Bab-ilum means Gate of G*d. They turned this into their capitol, the
Greeks would later label them as Babylonians. This is a very ancient
city with many fables and legends written about miracles that happened
here. This is possibly what the story of Jacob's Ladder was based on.
Hammurabi
was a king in ancient
Babylon, we know this because he had erected a stone pillar, that was
inscribed with the Law-codes of the country. This became known as
the "Code of Hammurabi".
So you can see that these three
cultures had a huge impact on people,
that as a result we have calender and written language, all born from
these ancient peoples, There are cultures that are so deeply ingrained
in the psyche that it is the topic for its own book.
The
old Testament
After careful consideration of
the origins of some of the sections of
the law of Moses. It is my own personal conclusion that they were
heavily influenced by the Sumerian culture that thrived in the
Mesopotamian valley area.
I believe that the Egyptian book of the
Dead, the adventures of Gilgamesh, and the Code of Hammurabi, as well
as the Sargon Empire had a huge impact and influence on the Hebrews,
they in turn took the ancient stories and took ownership of the
folklore.
Egypt would become weak, and
the end result was large groups of people
such as the Jews leaving Egypt for Canaan. The Philistines gave the
land of Canaan the name Palestine. the Philistines and the Jews
would fight for a while over the land of Canaan, right up until the
time that David would rise to power in Judah.
David gave Israel great rewards
in war, Israel enjoyed it's largest
portion geographically speaking under his rule. the entire
Mediterranean coast of Palestine belonged to Israel. Israel was split
into two countries, one being Judah and the other being the northern
tribes. there was much resentment toward the davidiean legacy. After
the
death of Solomon Israel was divided into two nations, one was the
Judah the other was Israel.
It was during this time, that
most Jews were not monotheist, it was the
Yahwists who pressed and pushed for superiority in the beliefs of the
Jews. It was met with much opposition for years. Later the Yahwists
would engage in writing the written word from the interpretations and
they would incorporate their own doctrines into the law.
Many of the leaders who ruled
ancient Palestine, were Jews who would be
written against by the Yahwists, for allowing the state to recognize
all beliefs valid and permissible to practice the "pagan" beliefs.
In the book Settings of Silver, an introduction to Judaism; Stephen m.
Wylen, breaks Jewish history down into three major periods.
They are:
- The Biblical Period, 1700 - 165 B.C.E.
Old World Hebrew Religion, the ancient Hebrews had a very different
religion from the modern Jews. The name Jewish is derived from the
tribe of Judah. Back in the ancient Hebrew biblical period, the codes
or "laws" were quite different from that of the Rabbinical Period.
- The Rabbinic Period, 165 B.C.E. - 1800 C.E.
By this time Hellenism had taken root in much of the mediteranian
areas, and western Asia. This was the birth of the Jewish Philosopher.
The Talmudic writings took hold. This is the time period
that the Rabbi was born, a new concept for the Jews who were spread out
arrived. It became known as the Synagogue, these were used as a place
to
worship and study Torah.
- The Modern Period, 1800 C.E. - Present.
Modern Jews consider it child splay to study the Tanakh. During the
Jews
childhood, they would have studied it through and through. The Jewish
scribes and scholars would help the neophytes to obtain a deeper
knowledge of the entire Jewish Bible.
The Torah is considered to be the written tradition of the Jews. The
Talmud is the written version of the oral law. This is where one finds
the hidden meanings in the Torah. It is the lifework of study for the
religious Jew.
Judaism is as much a philosophy, as it is a belief. Rabbi's in later
days would have been able to sit down with Plato or Socrates and been
able to hold their own with them. Judaism truly is as much an
intellectual thought pattern, as it is a heart felt passion. So in
modern times, you will find Jews of all walks of life. there are the
religious sects of Judaism. But the larger percentage of Jews are not
practicing religion, this has been the way it was as far back in time
as it was recorded. These "Secular" Jews hold an intelligence of
philosophy that is completely comparable to the Greek stoics way of
deducing things.
In modern times, the Religious
Jews would take the Talmudic writings
and place them in a new "bible" as commentaries on the various section
of the scripture being read.
1.The
Pentateuch books of Moses - The Law of
Moses
Comparatively speaking I feel
very strongly that the Books of the Law,
which is in the Jewish Bible, is primarily a fusion of ancient beliefs
that go back farther than the Hebrew people's collective Consciousness.
What I mean by this is I believe that much of the wisdom and stories in
the five books are assimilated and borrowed from other cultures from
the region. The Egyptian book of the Dead has been a suspicion for some
time, that quite possibly is the foundation material for most of the
Laws that Aaron administered. The First recorded Civilization is in
ancient Babylon, stemming from the city of Ur. This is where we find
the man Abram, who later became Abraham, came from. I feel he was
probably a part of an elite fighting force that started in Cannon and
he learned the warrior class skills that he later would use in several
instances to demand retribution on his relatives and neighbors.
The Habiru,
Warriors; Merchants who lived the
life of monads The Habiru in the middle eastern regions, were a
monastic warrior class, who also dealt were merchants farmers and
herdsman. when their groups would grow to become larger than what a
local kingdom could accept as tolerable. the Habiru would split into
smaller groups so that they could continue to operate under the wire so
to speak.
I feel that Abram, didn't
achieve his local clan status of kingship,
until he became Abraham. This was his obtainment for becoming the
wisdom of his local group. They were mini-geographical sheik, or
clan-chieftains. These were the ones who decided what rules their clan
would follow for interaction with the outside world around them.
Interesting that Abraham had the ha added, placing G*d's name inside
his. wasn't much different the other kings, who assumed the roles of
deity on earth.
The Habiru were used by the
kings of the countries they resided in as
mercenaries, these were ruthless and could get the job done quick and
rather painlessly. It was more economical to hire these mercenaries to
do the dirty work of the local dynasties, rather than send armies that
were supported financially by the state. The Habiru could easily get in
and out of a geography, inflicting great damage, and disappear into the
night before anyone realized what happened. At any time as many as
2,000 warrior Habiru could be called upon by a clan-chieftain.
Habiru is a middle eastern
term, Hebrew sounds very similar, and is a
Jewish word. so it stands to reason that the word Habiru could easily
have been used for the non-Hebrew peoples description of who they were.
The
Five Books of Moses
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The names come
from the Greek form of the scriptures. the Septuagint. Leviticus is
known among the Jews as "Torah Cohanim" - Literally "for the priests".
Deuteronomy was "Mishneh Torah" "Repetition of the Torah"
There was a "law of moses", that moses inscribed on a stone Altar, but
the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers and Deuteronomy were
not written by him. There is no way that the five books traditionally
seen as being written by Moses, could be fit on a stone altar.
The reason we know that he isn't the author of these books is that the
story in exodus about moses, is spoken in the third person. and his
death is included in the Pentateuch.
In the book Theological-political treatise, Spinoza points out the same
things.
Joshua,
Judges, books of Samuel
These books are all spoken as
if the author lived at a much later
time, referencing places by later geographical names. These stories are
the history involved with Israel, and is no different than if we were
in high school taking a world history class.
Job
It is believed that this book
is much older than the books of the old
testament, spinoza makes the claim that Job was probably a gentile.
This may have been another
story taken from the ancients of
mesopotamian valley area. The importance of this, is that G*d saves
more than just the Jew or the Gentile.
Job suffered great trials and
tribulations, and as a result of loosing
everything, including his health. others would come and point out his
faults, claiming that this was the reason for his loss. that his faith
was not strong enough, or he had committed some horrible acts against
nature and G*d.
The hero of this story is
considered by G*d to be most precious, even
the hairs on his head. The adversary kept coming before the king of
heaven, accusing Job of various things. G*d allows the adversary to
test Job, and Job doesn't fail the kingdom of heaven. He never blames
G*d for his calamity, nor does he become bitter towards his fellow
humans.
The New
Testament
My greatest frustration in
using the new testament; is that is only
based on the holy Roman church established by Constantine, who in the
end decided which books were heretical and which ones to burn. many
gospels and epistles were sent up in flames. some survived the
centuries, see Nag-Hamatti.
Some great influences on
mankind should be mentioned here, there were
the Hellenist, who were the Greeks. the Greeks didn't call themselves
Greek, that was the Roman term used to describe the Hellenist.
Alexander the great conquered much of the areas talked about, and as a
result knowledge traveled at lightnings speeds from eastern Asia to the
middle east and into the Mediterranean areas. The Jews already were
suffering from the diaspora.
Early Christianity experienced
starts within the Jewish community as a
viable sect of Judaism. They were considered authentically Jewish.
There were many Christian Jews who practiced Judaism on a daily basis
in the Temple. Over time Christianity would develop it's own ideals
concerning religion and G*d.
Karen Armstrong in her book A
History of G*d, says that Marks Gospel
was probably written around 70 A.D., Jesus is presented as a normal
man.
She says that Mark's Gospel was the earliest of the writings and that
Jesus had a family, including brothers and sisters.
By the time Jesus steps onto
the scene Jews had learned to be very
intellectual concerning their religion, their passion for the Divine
was an incredible dedication to the one G*d. There were Priests in the
temple at this time, and a council of Jews were part of the local
government, They were called the Sanhedren. If they handed out a
punishment, they had to get approval
from the local Roman magistrate who was put in power by Rome.
In addition to the before
mentioned Sanhedrin, there were three main
sects in Judaism. The Pharisee, Saducees and the Essene's. In the
temple there were daily arguments among the passionate Jews, the
Saducees and the Pharisees, they could become so angry about their
points of views concerning the Messiah and Resurrection from the dead
doctrines. One can find this information in the book of Josephus, who
was a jewish holy man, and revolutionary, after he was captured
by the Roman army he began recording written Jewish history for Romans
and Jews.
The Sadducees were upper-class preist cast of Jewish society. This was
the conservative party of Judaism for the time period just before the
destruction of the temple. These type of believers were extremely
legalistic and only accepted the written Torah. The rejected the Talmud
and other writings as heresy, to include the doctrine of the
resurection of the dead.
The Essenes were a separatist group, that disagreed with the temple
rituals being performed by the aristocratic preisthood and the
Sanhedrin. These generally existed as fringe groups in very remote
locations, rejecting all forms of modern man. These were even more
strict legalists than the Sadducees. They believed heavily in ritual
baths, for cleansing and purification rites. This was also a preist
class, but differing greatly in doctrine. The Essenes believed in the
end days, and a great war that would take place during that time, the
apocalypse.
Pharisees are tied in directly with the macabean wars, and flourished
well up to the time of the rabbi. They believed that the Talmud was the
Oral tradition and a valid understanding of the Written Torah. within
their doctrines was the resurection doctrine.
Jesus knew John the baptist,
who preached the Essenes ritual
purification of Baptism by full immersion in water. The Gospels loose
track of Jesus from around age 12 to 30. He was told by the rabbi in
the temple to go to the desert, later he shows up in the desert with
John the Baptist performing the purification rite on Jesus. John the
Baptists message was to Repent and be Baptized, for righteousness was
at hand. The Essenes were rather distant from the temple, embracing
what I believe is the older ways of the Jews.
There are many riddles among
other religions and beliefs that make the
claim that Jesus possibly went to their geographic areas to learn or
teach those doctrines outside of Judaism. I cannot accept this as a
viable way that Jesus learned his craft. yes travel was easy during
those days, because Rome had built huge highways that connected all of
the Roman Empire.
A Jew younger than 30 didn't
teach much about the ways of G*d.
Generally speaking marriage was an important aspect of a true Rabbi.
Because they felt it important to understanding the secrets of G*d. The
doctrines that Jesus taught were Jewish in design and scope, to claim
that it is eastern Asia, takes away from Judaism as well as the
religions of the east. There are universal truths that are practiced by
many belief systems. being kind to the stranger, charity, feeding the
hungry etc.
During the life of Jesus, there
were many faith healers who practiced
Judaism. They healed the sick, gave to the poor, fed the hungry. The
message that Jesus preached was summed up in one sentence, "do unto
others, as you would have them do to you."
The book of Matthew is
argumentative and there are many accusations
against the Pharisees. This group was respectable and wasn't
responsible for the death of Jesus. It was the ruling counsel of the
Sanhedrin, that persecuted him. The doctrine that Jews hated Jesus
isn't biblical even in the slightest. it is a later church doctrine
that came into being and was the beginnings of the modern world's
anti-semitic thought.
Up until the modern additions
of Christianity, people didn't turn to
religion for the meaning of life, they opened the literature that
concerned philosophy. For the most part religion was a cult practice
with rituals and ideals. it was based on emotion, not on ideology or
conscious theory. Even today people for the most part have no desire to
learn theology, yet they go to services regularly. They easily become
stuck in old biblical and non biblical folk tales. Ritual was an easy
way to heaven, allowing for the intercession of priests, for the common
person. This was how most dealt with the divine nature, comfortable and
saved, never opening up to new ideas. A trend that exists in most
modern churches today.
I deny the doctrine that the Jews
killed Jesus, it isn't proper. That would be like claiming that all of
the United States citizens were responsible for the death of a young
gay man, matthew shepherd. The truth is, it wasn't americans who killed
matthew, it was some americans. The same can be said of the Jews. It
wasn't the jews that killed Jesus, it was some Jews (primarily the
sanhedren councel).
The
Gospels
It is believed among the
educated scholars that the Gospels were not
written until around 100 to 150 years A.D.; the significance of this
is, that the "gospels" may not even be the words of Christ. They could
have been borrowed from many ancient ways and beliefs. in example Egypt
had a king rise up from the dead too, his name was Osiris.
I have my own suspicions about
the etymology of the Four Gospels,
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Paul in his epistles writes about who was
there at the time of Christ's alleged Resurrection. The appearance to
Mary Magdalene isn't even touched in in the 1 Colossians. But the
Apostles are mentioned as well as disciples. This could have been a
patriarchal pharisaic blunder, leaving the women out of the spiritual
aspects (of which Paul assumes much authority over, saying that women
should be silenced). In any case it isn't a focus of Paul's so I wonder
the validity of any of the words contained in the canonized gospels as
accurate. I suspect at the time of Paul's letters to the churches the
gospels hadn't been written yet, nor embellished in any way shape or
form.
The gospels at various points
shows Jesus arguing with the Pharisees
and belittling them to a great degree. The points of interest are
definitely embellished additions to the point of creating a new
thinking against the old ways.
After the death of Jesus, the
Christians took about 400 years to come
up with a new form of doctrine. it claimed that Jesus was G*d in human
form. Jesus never claimed to be G*d, he would always said something to
the effect of "son of man". Jesus never claimed to have exclusive
rights to healing the sick, he let his disciples know, that it was
obtainable for all of them. Jew and Muslim alike never have accepted
the doctrine of "G*d incarnate"
Somewhere around 80-100 A.D.,
there was an argument brewing among the
Jews, claiming that the Christian sect, didn't respect the law of
Moses. Eventually they were ejected from the temple and Synagogues.
The
Book of Acts
The first church is known as
the Apostolic Church, because it was the
Apostles who the foundation of the teachings of Jesus Christ was
established with. It is believed to have been written around 100 A.D.
One of the most notable
divisions in the book of acts, was that Paul
was preaching to the gentile nations. The Apostles and Disciples in
Jerusalem, were rather un-suportive of Paul's efforts. They considered
it to be heresy.
The Roman Catholic Church
claims that Peter gave the Pope the keys to
the kingdom of heaven, when in reality Roman Catholicism hadn't existed
in the time of peter and didn't show up for another two hundred and
fifty years after Peter's death.
Most modern churches are
descendants of the catholic church, the reason
being they splintered off and created new movements. I believe it is
the eastern orthodox church that probably most resembles the oneness
Christians that were murdered around 300 a.d.; I can never figure out
why all of them stick to those councils of Nicaea and Trent doctrines.
it is just bizarre to me, that it is still acceptable to accuse such
literary works as the Nag Hamatti as heretic gnostic formula. I
personally think that the Gnostic's were
probably the closest of all the branches to the original trends in
Judaism. which early Christianity actually practiced.
The Acts of the Apostles also
has some of the later story of the first
Christian's, the apostles in particular. Paul is referenced to and
things about his persecution of the church, as well as his conversion
to Christ. I feel strongly that this book was written much later than
when the apostolic were first here. Paul only alludes to some of the
things in the book of acts, but never comes out and says it quite the
same way. which tells me he probably had no knowledge of this book as
well as the gospels.
This book clearly points out
that the first Christians were definitely
Jewish teachings, there really wasn't anything radical being preached,
their conceptions of G*d was based on Jewish works and teachers.
the acts of the apostles most likely was written after paul and before
the gospels. The readers attention is directed to the day of pentecost,
when the spirit of the laord descended on the apostles. The were filled
with what was labled the "ecstasy", The pouring out of G*ds Holy
Spirit. The believers who were filled with the spirit and quite drunk
from the pure heavenly bliss of salvation fillling their bodies. The
other religious Jews mocked these the first Christians, saying they
were drunk and out of order for the Holy Festival.
The Acts of the Apostles 2:1-
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were
with one
accord in one place. 2. And suddenly there came a sound from
heaven as
of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were
sitting. 3. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of
fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4. and they were all filled with
the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit
gave them utterance. 5. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews,
devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6. Now when this was
noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confoudned,
because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7. And
they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are
not all these which speak Galilaians? 8. And how hear we every man in
our own tongue, wher ein we were born? 9. Parthiang, and medes, and
Elamites, and the dwelelrs in Mesopotamia, and in Judea and Cppadoncia,
in Pontus, and Asia. 10 Phyrgia, and pPamphy!ia, in egypt, and in parts
of Libya about cyrene and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11.
Cretes and Abrabians, we do hear them speak in our tonges the wonderful
works of G*d. 12. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying
one to another, what meaneth this? 13. Othersmocking said, these men
are full of new wine. 14. But Peter standing u with the eleven, lifted
up his voice, ands aid unto them, Ye men of Judea, and on ye that dwell
at Jerusalem, be this known unto youy, and hearken to my words. 15. For
thse are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of
the day. 16.But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17.
And it shal lcome to pass in the last days, saith G*d, I wil lpour out
of my spirit upon all flesh: and your sonds and your daughters shal
lprophesy. and your young men shall se evisions, and your old men shall
dream drams; 18. And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour
out in those days of my spirit; and they shal lprophesy. 19. And
I
will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath;
blood, andfire, and vapour and smoke: 20. The sun shal lbe turned into
darkness, and the moon into blod, before that great and notable day of
the Lord come. 21 And it shall come to pass that whosoever shal lcall
on the name of the Lord shall be saved 22.you men of Israel, hear these
words; Jesus of Naereth, a man approved of G*d among you by miracles
and wonders and signs, which G*d did by him in the midst of you, as you
yourselves also know: 23. Him, being delivered by the determinate
counsel and foreknowledge of G*d, you have taken, and by wicked hands
have crucified and slain: 24 Whom G*d hath raise up, having loosed the
pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of
it. 25. For david speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always
before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26. Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover
also my flesh shall rest in hope; 27. Because thou wilt not leave my
soul in hell, neither will you suffer the Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou has made, known to me the ways of life; tou shalt make me full
of joy wityour countenance. 29. Men and bretheren, let me freely speak
unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and
his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet
and know tha tG*d had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of
his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ tos it on
his throne: 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of
Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neihter his flesh, he would
raise up Christ ot sit on his throne? 32. This Jesus hat G*d raise dup,
whereof we all are witnesses. 33. Therefore bing by the right had of
G*d exalted, and haivng received of the father the promise of the Holy
Ghost. He hath shed forth this, which ye see and hear. 34 For David is
not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto
my Lord, sit thou on my right hand. 35. Until I make thy foes thy
footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly,
that G*d hath made the same Jesus, whom yea have crucified, both Lord
an d Christ 37. Now when they heard this, they wer epricked in thier
heart, and said unto Peter and to ther rest of the apostles, Men and
brethren, what shall we do? 38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and
be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins and you shal lreceive the gift of the HOly Ghost. 39
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to alltha
tareafar off, even as many as the Lord our G*d shall call. 40. And with
many other words did he testify and exhort, saying Save yourselves from
this untoward generation. 41. Then they that gladly received his word
wer ebabtized: and the same day there added unto htem about htree
thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles'
doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
The first church had an explosion from a small handful of believers to
a couple thousand that same day. According to the passage above, Peter
says that one has to repent before anything else. Repentance of things
in one's life is the desire to put the object that is causing the
beliver to loose sight of thier G*d. It is a military term, meaning
"about face" --go in another direction, completly opposite-- from where
you are going. a new directon and a new begining is implied.
His second directive to the shamed Jewish believers, everyone had to be
baptized. Which raises another interesting point, we shall discuss it
further a little more into the chapter. there is a split among the
organized believers over what methods to employ when babtizing, or even
salvation for that respect. Suffice it to say for now, they were
babtized. We will discover the method used later on in the text.
The last step was to recieve the holy spirit, which was all part of the
promise written in the Jewish Literature titled Joel. These
people
that Peter was addressing were dedicated Jews, they traveled from all
the needs of the earth to be in the Holy land and partake in the city
of David, the Pentecost Rituals. Thy should be considered
to not be a
fickle audience. and they probably were well versed in the Torah
and
Talmudic writings available to them for the time period. For them
to
accept such a thing, and so many of them, is no small undertaking. try
to get two thousand people to agree on something!
The book of acts cover the early church history, and clearly they
had
done all miracles and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. the
sanhedrin ordered the apostles and disciples of the church, to never
teach or perform miracles in the name of Jesus. Gamaliel was one of the
Sanhedrin and he told them to be careful of persecuting the christians,
because if they be of G*d, no man could stop them. He also claims that
if the movement isn't of G*d then it wil flade away just like other
groups in Jewish history.
The
Epistles of Paul
Now concerning the Pauline
epistles, in the book or Romans Paul is
actually describing to the saints; temple prostitution. he forbids
this from being done in church services. some say its all cases of
homosexuality. I disagree with that narrow way of thinking. another
reason I don't buy into the Pauline Epistles so much, is he was a
Pharisee and hence was a child of the law by comparison. he may have
found grace in the blood, but comes forward in his epistles several
times that he isn't writing at that point as the mind of G*d, but after
his own flesh.
The previous paragraph would be true if we knew that paul's writings
were true and exact replications of his work. We cannot prove or
disprove this. It is highly suspect that these epistles were left to
its original message. Scholers believe that the "Traditional" texts,
were not all written by the author that it claims to have been by.
It is believed that as the early christian church flourished. The
believers would embellish texts to reflect new ideas, or doctrines.
There are many who claim that some of pauls writings are not his, and
many divisions among the scholarly which believe which are written by
the
apostle. according to wikipedia.com, the ones that most scholars agree
on are:
- Romans
- Corinthians 1, and 2

Galations
Key Components:
Galations 1:10
Am I now trying to win the approvel of men, or of G*d? Or
am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I
would not be a servant of Christ.
Galation 1:16
... I did not consult any man
Galations 2:2
.. I did this privately to show who seemed to be leaders,
for fear that I was running or had run my race in vain.
Galations 2:6
As for those who seemed to be important--whatever they
were makes no difference to me; G*d does not judge by external
appearance--those men added nothing to my message.
Galations 2:10
... Continue to remember the Poor.
Galations 2:16
Know that a man is not justified by observing the law,
but by faith in Jesus Christ.
Galations 3: 11
Clearly no one is justified before G*d by the Law,
because, "The righteous will live by faith."
Galations 3:20
A mediator, however, does not represent just one party;
but G*d is one.
Galations 3:25
Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the
supervision of the law.
Galations 4:7
So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and sine you are
a son, G*d has made you also an heir.
Galations 4:9
... how is it that you are turning back to those weak and
miserable principles? do you wish to be enslaved by them al lover again?
Galations 4:13
What has happend to all your joy?
Galations 4:17
Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no
good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may be
zealous for them.
Galations 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand
firm, then and do not let yourselves be burndened again by a yoke of
slavery.
Galations 5:6
For in Chist Jesus neither circumcision nor
uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith
expressing itself through love.
Galations 5:9
"A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough."
Galations 5:13
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use
your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather serve one another in
love. 14. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your
neighbor as youself." 15. If you keep on biting and devouring each
other, whatch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
Galations 5:17
For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the
Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are
in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19. The
actus of the sinfule nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impuirty
and debauchery; 20. idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jalousy,
fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21. and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that
those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of G*d.
Galations 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23. gentleness and slef
control. Against such things there is no law. 24. Those who belong to
Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and
desires. 25. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit. 26. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each
other.
Galations 6:1
Brothers, if someone is caught in as in, you who are
spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself or you also may
be tempted. 2. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will
fulfill the law of Christ. 3. If anyone thinks he is something when he
is nothing, he decieves himself. 4. Each one should test his own
actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself
to somebody else, 5. for each one should carry his own load.
Galations 6:7
Do not be deceived: G*d cannot be mocked. A man reaps
what he sows. 8. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from
that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the
Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9. Let us not become
weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if
we do not give up. 10. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do
good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of
believers.
Galations 6:15
Neither circumcision nor uncircumsison means anything;
what counts is a new creation.

Therefore we do not need to say anything about it.
1 Thesalonians 2:3
For the appeal we make does not spring from error or
imorue motives, nor are we trying to trick you. 4.On the contrary, we
apeak as men approved by G*d to be entrusted with the gospel. We are
not trying to please men but G*d, who tests our hearts. 5. You know we
never used flattery, nor did we put on am ask to cover up greed--G*d is
our witness.

1 Thesalonians 2:15
... They dispelease G*d and are hostile toa ll men 16. in
thier effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles o stha tthey may
be saved. in this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The
wrath of G*d has come upon them.
1 Thesalonians 3:2
... to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, 3. so
that no one would be unsettled by thse trials.

It is G*d's will that you whould be hly; that you should

but G*d, who gives you his Holy Spirit. 9. Now about brotherly love we
do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have bene taught by G*d
to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love al lthe brothers
throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to dos o more and
more. 11. Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own
business and to work with your hands, ujust as we told you, 12 so that
your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so tha tyou wil
lnot be dependent on anybody.
1 Thesalonians 5:5
You are all sonds of the light and sons of the day. we do
not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6. So then, let us not be
like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self_controlled.
7. For those who sleep, sleep at night and those who get drunk, get
drunk at night. 8. but since we bonlong to the day, let us be
self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the
hope of salvation as a helmet. 9. For G*d did not appoint us to suffer
wrath but to receive salvation trhough our Lord Jesus Christ. 10. He
died for us so that, wheater we are awake or asleep, we may live
together with him. 11. Therefore encourage one another and build each

Philemon
The rest they are unsure of who the authors are, Early Christianity had
a habit of circulating letters around that may or may not have had
their authorship in the documents themselves, but were embellished by
the believers to claim a titleship where it may not have been.
7. The
Epistles of Apostles
There were other writings
attributed to the Apostles, Sometimes only in
name, other times actual recordings by the individuals.
In the Canonized Christian
Bible, we have in addition to Paul's
epistles, The book of James, two books by Peter, and two books so named
John,4 Then we have a small book whose author, is Jude, finally
Revelations said to be written by the apostle John while exiled to the
aisle of Patmos.
