September 11, 2007 - 8:46 a.m. The
United States of America observes a moment of silence. Bells ring it is
a sobering day for most of us. We as a Nation remember one of the most
horrible tragedies implemented by enemies of the State on our own soil.
Six
years later what is the average American Saying about it? I can
remember exactly what I was doing at that devastating moment in our
history. I was in South East Chicago visiting my Partner at the times
mother and sister. My partner was back in my city of Madison,
Wisconsin. the moment was very sobering, as I sat there with Good
Morning America on my Television screen.
My
daily ritual for many years has been to watch the morning news. My
partner at that time use to give me a lot of grief for turning the
idiot box on first thing in the day. On 9.11 it would prove him to be
wrong about my attitude for turning on the news. The day that unfolded
after that crazy instance.
Four commercial airlines had claimed
many lives in a crash that was caused by terrorists on board who
believed in dying for their fundamentalist beliefs. All Commercial
Airlines, and Private Planes were immediately grounded.
I
simply could not believe the insanity that unfolded before my eyes on
the Television. Someone had gotten the video footage that a citizen had
caught on film. Then during the broadcast, there was a lot of
speculation. The media was trying to discover what happened to the
first tower, it was smoking and on fire. Then it happened live on the
news, the second plane came in and hit the other tower. We knew without
a shadow of a doubt, that this was terrorism. Then the third plane hit
the pentagon, and another plane destined for the White House went down
in Pennsylvania.
Throughout
the day I had a lot of radio announcements on. It was important to me
to stick close to what was happening across the Country. We later would
learn that the casualty numbers were very high. Our way of life was
forever changed that day.
Now we have barricades in front of
most Government buildings, and high security for those areas. I can
remember on that day, pretty much the entire city of Chicago was
evacuated from the downtown areas. It was a ghost town at this point.
There are very few who pay attention to the current status of the
Terror alert system that was created shortly after this insane day.
My
greatest fear is that many of the lies and false information, will
become mainstream American History. I truly hope the spin doctors lies
are not taught as historical fact in our Schools. Our Nation has a
repetition of not presenting the truth when it comes to educating our
youth. This would be the greatest tragedy of 9.11. For the children's
children would have forgotten what this whole mess was about.
My
other fear about 9.11 is that it becomes a National Holiday. My
thoughts race back to Memorial day. We as a Nation celebrate it the
same as July 4th. It is not a day for celebration, it is a day for
remembrance of the fallen. I sincerely hope that we get this right.
